About Guitars

The guitar is a plucked string instrument that is played with the fingers or a pick. There are usually 6 strings that run down the neck of a guitar that is attached to the body. Guitars can be made of various woods and the strings are usually made of nylon or steel. Guitars come in two forms, acoustic and electric.

Acoustic guitars have hollow bodies that amplify the notes being played. Electric guitars rely on an electric amplifier that  can also alter the tone of the notes.

Blues guitar is not a type of guitar but rather a style of music. It originates from the deep south of the USA at the end of the 19th century and has had a chequered past. At one point it was considered the Music of the Devil! Luckily for us, it has been popularised since then and is now a major influence on many other styles of music.
